چکیده

In recent years, the gamification research community has widely and frequently questioned effectiveness of one-size-fits-all schemes. consequence, personalization seems to be an important part any successful design. Personalization can improved by understanding user behavior Hexad player/user type. This paper comes with original idea: It investigates whether users’ game-related data (collected via various gamer-archetype surveys) used predict their behavioral characteristics types in non-game (but gamified) contexts. The affinity that exists between concepts gaming provided us impetus for running this exploratory research. We conducted initial survey study 67 Stack Exchange users (as a case study). discovered gameplay information could reveal valuable helpful about non-gaming environment. results testing three gamer archetypes (i.e., Bartle, Big Five, BrainHex) show they all help most dominant type better than random labeler’s baseline. That said, analyzed paper, BrainHex performs best. end, we introduce agenda future work.

A Personal Storytelling about Your Favorite Data

A controlled use of omnipresent data can leverage a potential of services never reached before. In this paper, we propose a user driven approach to take advantage of massive data streams. Our solution, named Stream2Text, relies on a personalized and continuous refinement of data to generate texts (in natural language) that provide a tailored synthesis of relevant data. It enables monitoring by ...

Egg's ZP3 Structure Speaks Volumes

Binding of mammalian sperm to eggs depends in part on ZP3, a glycoprotein in the egg's extracellular coat, the zona pellucida. In this issue, Han et al. (2010) describe the structure of an avian ZP3 homolog, providing insights into ZP3 processing and polymerization and the roles of the ZP3 polypeptide and its carbohydrate in sperm binding.

What Your Username Says About You

Usernames are ubiquitous on the Internet, and they are often suggestive of user demographics. This work looks at the degree to which gender and language can be inferred from a username alone by making use of unsupervised morphology induction to decompose usernames into sub-units. Experimental results on the two tasks demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed morphological features compared ...

What’s Your Favorite Crystal Structure?

I stumbled into the crystal structure of Ire1 a few years ago when my lab had just solved the structures of several helical signaling oligomers formed by death domains. I was curious if others had observed similar structures in their systems andwhether these higher-order oligomers might tell us something new about molecular mechanisms in signal transduction. Ire1 is a receptor critical for the ...
